Shillong: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has recommended its spokesperson, Dr Batskhem Myrboh, as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election.
The by-poll was necessitated following the sudden demise of sitting Shillong MP, Ricky A J Syngkon, who passed away on February 19.
In a statement issued on March 2, party spokesperson Dr A W Rani said the VPP Election Committee had submitted its recommendation to the State Executive Committee for approval.
“The Election Committee has today, the 2nd March, 2026, submitted its recommendation to the State Executive Committee for approval, proposing the name of Dr Batskhem Myrboh as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha by-election from the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency, necessitated by the untimely demise of the sitting Member of Parliament, Dr Ricky A J Syngkon, who passed away on 19th February 2026,” Rani said.
The final decision now rests with the party’s State Executive Committee.
