The Congress party on Saturday launched its campaign for the upcoming parliamentary by-election at Mawkyrwat, with former MP and Congress candidate Vincent H. Pala leading the programme.
Addressing party workers and supporters, Pala urged the people to recall the period of Congress-led governance in India and Meghalaya, claiming that several developmental initiatives were implemented during the party’s tenure. He remarked that many of those achievements did not receive widespread public attention at the time due to the limited reach of social media compared to today.
Pala also launched a strong attack on the BJP-led Central Government, alleging that several policies introduced by the ruling party could adversely affect minority communities, particularly Christians in the Northeast and other parts of the country.
He asserted that while the BJP currently holds power at the Centre, the Congress remains the only political party capable of effectively challenging it both politically and within Parliament.
Appealing to voters of South West Khasi Hills, Pala urged them to once again support the Congress, stating that a stronger Congress would help advance development in Meghalaya and oppose what he described as anti-people policies of the Central Government.
The meeting was also addressed by several party leaders, including Barrister Thyrniang, Secretary of the District Congress Committee (DCC), Kynpham Kharlyngdoh, President of the DCC, K. Lyngkhoi, Working President of the MPCC, Gilbert Kharraswai, Secretary of the ACC, and others.
