Shillong: The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC), West Khasi Hills District, has urged the district administration to expedite its inquiry into allegations that job seekers were asked to pay up to ₹4 lakh to secure Staff Nurse posts at the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Hospital in Nongstoin.
A delegation led by HYC West Khasi Hills District General Secretary Wanteibok Lyndoh and Vice President Jeremiah Dkhar met Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, IAS, to discuss the controversy that surfaced on social media.
The district administration has constituted an inquiry committee headed by BDO E.L. Lyngdoh and Superintendent of Police H.K. Kharkongor to examine the allegations circulating on social media. The committee will also consider complaints from anyone who believes they encountered corruption in connection with the recruitment to the posts.
The HYC urged the administration to complete the inquiry at the earliest, citing the urgent need for staff at the MCH Hospital and the growing public demand for the facility to become operational.
The organisation said opening the hospital would provide significant relief to expectant mothers and children in the region while also easing the pressure on Nongstoin Civil Hospital.
It further said that shifting maternal and child healthcare services to the MCH Hospital could allow the Civil Hospital to expand other services, including dialysis and other specialised facilities.
