Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is set to inaugurate the Cherry Blossom Festival on November 15-16 at Madan Kurkalang, Ri Bhoi District.
The festival will also be graced by Japan’s Head of State, marking a milestone as the Japanese government joins in celebrating this popular event, which has brought significant recognition to the state.
In addition to the Cherry Blossom Festival, a Literature Festival is scheduled for November 18-19.
Tourism efforts are also in full swing, with the Tourism Department set to employ 70 youths under the Tourism Body Scheme to assist and guide tourists across popular destinations like Nan Polok, Umiam, Sohra, Mawlynnong, Riwai, Mawphlang, Krang Suri, Laitlum and Nohkrek. The government will collaborate with local groups managing these tourist sites, as many are community-owned rather than state owned.
In support of tourism infrastructure, funds of Rs. 191 crore and Rs. 227 crore from the Asian Development Bank have been allocated to enhance facilities, accommodations in the region.
