At least eight leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) were summoned by Sadar Police Station on Thursday, but were allegedly unable to enter the station after finding the gate shut despite informing police personnel that they had arrived in response to the summons.
KSU Assistant General Secretary Pynshai Rani said eight members of the union’s Central Executive Committee were summoned in connection with the bike rally organised by the KSU on August 19.
He said the leaders went to Sadar Police Station to comply with the police notice, but found the gate closed and were not allowed to enter the premises.
According to Rani, the leaders eventually had to return after being unable to gain entry.
He said the union had made it clear that its members had complied with the police summons by appearing at the station. Given that they were not allowed to enter, Rani said the police should not issue fresh notices or otherwise harass the KSU leaders over the matter.
