The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has agreed to accept the Meghalaya Government’s invitation for talks on five demands raised by the organisation.
According to a statement issued by KSU Information and Publicity Secretary Pynshai Kupar Dkhar, the Union’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), at a meeting held on Tuesday evening, decided to accept the state government’s invitation for dialogue.
According to information available, the meeting between the KSU and the government is likely to be held tomorrow, Wednesday, at around 6 pm.
The five demands raised by the KSU include the cancellation of the public hearing for Shree Cement Ltd; suspension of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills, along with officials of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB), and initiation of departmental proceedings against them.
The Union has also demanded the immediate implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016; amendments to the Meghalaya Identification, Registration (Safety & Security) of Migrant Workers Act, 2020; reservation of job opportunities for indigenous residents of the state at NEIGRIHMS; and reforms in the recruitment process of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) and District Selection Committees (DSCs) to ensure transparency and prevent suspicion in government appointments.
