The Meghalaya State Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested two persons and seized 40.12 grams of heroin valued at approximately ₹7 lakh during an intelligence-led operation at Pynthorumkhrah in Shillong.
According to a press release issued by Vikash Kumar, IPS, Superintendent of Police, ANTF Meghalaya, the operation was launched after the task force received information that narcotics were allegedly being transported from Silchar, Assam, to Shillong for delivery.
Acting on the information, ANTF personnel were deployed at strategic locations and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number ML-05-AD-1301 at Pynthorumkhrah.
The two occupants were identified as Jamir Hussain Laskar, a resident of Pangram in Cachar, Assam, and Joy Ryntathiang, a resident of Umkdait, Nongmensong, Shillong.
During a search conducted in accordance with legal procedures, police recovered four soap boxes containing a substance suspected to be heroin. The substance subsequently tested positive for heroin and weighed 40.12 grams, according to the ANTF.
Both accused were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the contraband and identify others allegedly connected with the trafficking network.
