No NOC received from the KHADC with regards on the Shillong railway line: Conrad

Shillong: The Government of Meghalaya has not received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) regarding the Shillong line, informed Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday.

The Chief Minister informed that he had approached the Minister of Railways, Government of India, and urged that these are matters where the government needs to consult and take our stakeholders into confidence.

“..hence we require time to discuss matters with them and only once we come to some kind of a understanding, we will be able to go ahead with things, ”said CM while speaking to media personnel after the day 5 of Budget Session.

He also informed that at Byrnihat also there are certain concerns arising and the government of Meghalaya is still engaging and discussing with the different stakeholders.

“We can start with goods train as I have mentioned earlier, as goods train is something that will help the State’s economy…that is one way to start”, said the Chief Minister.

Reiterating with the need to engage all stakeholders, CM said that the government is clear on its stand in engaging with everybody, discuss the matter and take it forward in an amicable way.

The CM further informed that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned and would like to see that all the capital of the states are connected with railway in the larger interest of the nation ensuring that the overall economy prosperous.

“It is a correct stand, looking at it from a country’s perspective connecting all states and capitals is something that will benefit the country as a whole obviously PM has good intentions while stating that the Railway ministry to achieve this”, added CM.

However, the CM further said that every States has their own complications. He states that in Meghalaya railway has been an issue that alot of different organisations and traditions heads have raised concerns regarding issues of influx.

“We need to understand that though the importance of railway is understood but it is also important to carry our people along and build up the confidence in them”, said CM Conrad.
