Shillong: Congress MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh expressed concern over the lack of awareness regarding the naming of roads in the state after prominent figures. He highlighted that many people are unaware that the road from Khyndailad to Jail Road is officially named Kiang Nangbah Road.
During a discussion in the legislative assembly, the Mylliem MLA suggested that the government install signboards or provide clear indications of such named roads. He noted that this would help people recognize the significance of these names.
In response, Minister Rakkam A Sangma, in charge of the General Administration Department, acknowledged the issue and mentioned that several roads in the state have been named after notable figures like Tirot Sing, JJM Nichols Roy, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Don Bosco, and others. He also agreed to rectify any errors in the naming process and ensure proper signboards are installed to inform the public of these names.
