The BJP Meghalaya has called for the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, Prof. Prabha Shukla Shankar, to be granted an extended leave instead of the 15-day break he has currently taken, to allow space for resolving the ongoing unrest at the university. BJP leader and MLA Alexander L. Hek made the statement after visiting students on hunger strike at NEHU.
Hek revealed that the BJP delegation will meet Union Education Minister Pradhan Dhamendra and BJP National President to highlight NEHU’s issues and seek an urgent resolution. He emphasized that the ongoing protests have severely impacted not only the students’ academic pursuits but the overall functioning of the university.
The BJP team, including representatives from Delhi, also met NEHU teachers, NEHUTA, NEHUSU, and other stakeholders. Hek affirmed that the party would address these concerns at the national level, pledging to work toward restoring normalcy at the institution.
