Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) President, Conrad K Sangma, has expressed concern over individuals and groups attempting to divide society and the state for political gain. Speaking during the 12th-anniversary celebration of the NPP, Sangma emphasized that his party rejects divisive politics and instead believes in fostering unity among the people.
Sangma highlighted that while criticism is a part of politics, he is disheartened by negative and destructive rhetoric that only serves to create obstacles within the community. He pointed out that some factions are deliberately trying to fracture the social fabric of Meghalaya with the aim of seizing power.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of unity, recalling the efforts of past leaders who worked together to achieve statehood for Meghalaya despite the diversity of communities and cultures. He questioned why the spirit of collaboration has diminished and urged a return to the collective mindset that once guided the state’s progress.
Sangma reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to positive politics that promotes unity and rejects any actions that seek to divide the people of Meghalaya. He concluded by stating that the party will not support or engage in any form of politics that sows division among the state’s communities.
