Nongstoiñ: A tragic incident unfolded on Monday when Rilinda Symbei, a 24-year-old woman from Nondeiñ New Nongstoiñ, was swept away by floodwaters while washing clothes in the Porjalem river near Mawkawah village on her way to Mawkyrwat.
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM after a heavy downpour caused the river’s currents to intensify. Rilinda was accompanied by three others who managed to escape the dangerous waters, but she was tragically caught by the current and swept away.
Local police and villagers immediately launched a search operation. After several hours, her body was recovered around 4:30 PM.
Rilinda leaves behind two young children, including a 10-month-old baby. The community has been deeply saddened by the incident, and local authorities have urged people to exercise caution around water bodies during the monsoon season.
