NPP MLAs Criticizing Gambegre’s Development Should First Examine Their Own Constituencies, Says Saleng

Tura MP and former Gambegre MLA, Saleng A. Sangma, has strongly criticized National People’s Party (NPP) MLAs for claiming that the Gambegre constituency is lagging behind in development. Sangma asked these MLAs to focus on their own constituencies, pointing out that they have been in government for six years.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Saleng, who recently won the Tura MP seat, highlighted his 15-year tenure in power and the progress made in Gambegre during that time.

He noted that in the last five years, the constituency has seen significant development, especially in areas that were newly included after the restructuring of the Tura constituency.

Saleng said that, even as an independent MLA over the past three years, he has brought numerous development projects to Gambegre. He mentioned that many villages that previously lacked basic infrastructure now have roads. He also listed key developments such as the upcoming Eklavya Model Residential School, a new dispensary, improvements in the Animal Husbandry Department, a Community Health Center (CHC), a farmers’ market, and the replacement of approximately 200 wooden bridges with new ones.

Sangma contrasted this progress with the period when Admiral K. Sangma, during his tenure as an MLA under PA Sangma’s leadership, failed to deliver even basic road maintenance, despite holding a ministerial position.

Reflecting on his early days as an MLA in 2008, Saleng recalled that job opportunities were scarce, and he had to actively seek out young people from villages who had completed their degrees. However, he noted that the situation has improved, with many young people now successfully passing various educational levels.
