Congress MLAs Who Defected to NPP Will Only Get ‘Foundation Stones,’ Says Saleng

Tura MP and Congress leader Saleng A Sangma has criticized the three Congress MLAs who defected to the National People’s Party (NPP), suggesting that they might receive nothing more than foundation stones for promised development projects. Speaking today, Saleng expressed skepticism about the MLAs’ expectations of developmental work in their constituencies, pointing out that the NPP had previously inaugurated various projects before the 2023 elections, such as Blocks and schools, many of which remained non-functional.

He highlighted instances where Community and Rural Development Blocks existed only in name, without operational offices, and schools that never became functional. Saleng accused the current government of focusing on showmanship rather than delivering tangible results.

Saleng also stated that the Congress would not suffer from the departure of these three MLAs but instead would emerge stronger with new leadership by 2028.

It is noteworthy that the three Congress MLAs who defected to the NPP include Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh from Umsning, Charles Marngar from Mawhati, and Gabriel Wahlang.
