Meghalaya MLAs unite to support domestic violence victim in West Jaintia Hills

The Chairperson of the Women’s Empowerment Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Santa Mary Shylla said that the MLAs will come together to support the woman who was recently burnt by her husband in a village in West Jaintia Hills.

Speaking to reporters, the MLA of Saipung-Sutnga announced her plans to visit the victim’s family and provide assistance through the Committee. She revealed that financial aid will be raised through contributions from the MLAs serving on the Women’s Empowerment Committee.

Expressing grave concern over the rising cases of violence against women, Shylla added the urgency of swift justice for victims. She stated that the Committee has urged the judiciary to expedite trials in such cases.

Additionally, Shylla highlighted the alarming rise in crimes fueled by drug abuse and other factors, advocating for stricter laws to deter offenders.
