Assam Hindu Group must respect local sentiments: Minister Rakkam on Mawjymbuin Cave issue

HEADLINES

Minister Rakkam A. Sangma has criticised the interference by an Assam-based Hindu group in the ongoing issue surrounding the Mawjymbuin Cave in Mawsynram.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma warned that such actions could lead to negative and unwanted consequences, disrupting peace and harmony in the region.

Sangma cited the importance of respecting religious practices and maintaining communal harmony. He added that this is a local issue, so the Hindu group from Assam should respect the sentiments of the local people.

The Hindu Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) has demanded that the state government reopen the Mawjymbuin Cave for Hindu rituals within 10 days. The group has threatened to block major roads connecting Meghalaya, including Jorabat in Guwahati and Paikan in Goalpara, if their demands are not met before Christmas.

The KSP also accused the Meghalaya Government of failing to act on a Meghalaya High Court order, which directed the resolution of the issue through dialogue with all stakeholders.
