CM CLARIFIES TO KHADC MDCs OF VILLAGE DORBAR BEING INCLUDED IN THE AMENDMENT TO THE 6TH SCHEDULE

SHILLONG, February 07: The MDCs of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) under the Chief Executive Member, Titostarwell Chyne have sought for a clarification from Chief Minister, Conrad Kongkal Sangma with regard to the inclusion of the Village Council in the Amendment to the Sixth Schedule.

Speaking with media persons, the CEM informed that the Chief Minister has clearly stated that the suggestions of the KHADC have been incorporated in the amendment and under the term ‘Village Council’, the term ‘Village Dorbar’ has also been added. He said that the meaning of this is that the term Village Dorbar will be used for Khasi-Jaintia Hills while the term Village Council will be used in Garo Hills.

He said that it is clear now that the Government has not done committed a mistake and has followed suit all suggestions of the Council.

Chyne also stated that the Chief Minister has invited representatives of the Council to go with him to Delhi as well for more clarity, so that there is no mistake on the part of the Ministry while approving the Amendment.

On being asked, the CEM said that the KHADC sought a clarification so that there may not be too many villages included in the Village Dorbar and as it is at present the selection of village heads will be made has always been done, through the District Council.

On the other hand, Chyne said that in this meeting, the release from the State Government of ₹60 crores of funds allocated by the Central Government for the Council was also discussed.
