SHILLONG, February 07: The MDC of Mawphlang-Diengiei, Lamphrang Blah was elected unopposed as Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council today the 7th of February,2022.
The election of a new Chairman was required to be held following the resignation of former Chairman, Pyniaid Sing Syiem and in the Special Session held today, the Deputy Chairman, Alvin K.Sawkmie declared Lamphrang Blah as elected unopposed after the Congress in the Opposition did not present any candidate for the post.
After his election as the new Chairman, Blah was accompanied by the CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne, leader of the Opposition,P.N Syiem and former Chairman, Pyniaid Sing Syiem in taking charge of the Chairman seat.
In this session, the MDCs greeted and wished well for the new Chairman in his new role with the hope that he performs his duties in the Council while exercising impartiality.
Lamphrang Blah is an MDC who has consecutively won 4 times from Mawphlang on a Congress ticket, but recently joined the NPP to contest the bye-election. This is the first time that Blah has been elected as Chairman of the KHADC and in the past, had been an Executive Member in the Council and also leader of the Opposition.
