JUSTICE T. VAIPHEI INSPECTS THE RESIDENCE OF CHERISTERFIELD, REQUIRE 3 MORE MONTHS TO COMPLETE INQUIRY

SHILLONG, February 06: The Chairperson of the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission and also Chairman of the Judicial Inquiry Committee on the killing of Cherishterfield Thangkhiew on the 13th of August, 2021, Justice T.Vaiphei on Saturday the 5th of February, inspected the residence of Cherishterfield Thangkhiew, former General Secretary of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

On this day, Justice T.Vaiphei said that it will probably take at least 3 more months to complete the judicial inquiry constituted by the Government. He said that till now, there has not been any judicial inquiry that has completed the alloted task within the prescribed time or within 6 months.

On being questioned by a noted reporter on the inspection conducted, Vaiphei refused to give any comment but said that about 2 more weeks is required to study the findings and probably about another 3 more months to fully complete the inquiry on the incident. He also stated that the Commission will seek more time from the Government for the completion of the inquiry.
