SHILLONG, December 19: The leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya who is also the MLA of Pynthorumkhrah and former Minister in the Government, Alexander Laloo Hek said that the Congress has accepted the BJP in the State, an indication that the BJP has been accepted in the State for even the Congress which had always opposed the BJP all this while is eager to work together with the party.
The MLAs of the Congress party under it’s leader, Dr.Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh on the 17th of this month had offered to work in unison with the MDA coalition Government led by the National People’s Party (NPP) with the BJP, regional parties such as the UDP, HSPDP,PDF and also independent MLAs as coalition partners.
Speaking with Hek on this step taken by the Congress, he stated that the BJP is ready to work together for the welfare of the state irrespective of whoever they might be.
He said that the offer made by the 5 MLAs of the Congress to work together with the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government on several issues is a clear indication that the Congress has now accepted the BJP.
He said that all the while, the Congress had always opposed the MDA Government, but now as it is scattered in pieces, it no longer has another option but to attach itself with other parties to show that the party still exists.
Responding to a query, Hek said that if the MLAs altogether exit from the Congress, it will be better for them as their staying in the Congress will not lead them anywhere.
On the presence of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly instead of the Congress, Hek said that the presence of the AITC in the Opposition is exactly the same as when the Congress was in the Opposition earlier with Dr.Mukul Sangma as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and now him again as the leader of the Parliamentary Party of the AITC,while also expressing that this will not affect the Government.
