Nongpoh: A horrific accident late Friday night shook Nongpoh when a bike (ML 05 Y 3698), coming from the wrong side, rammed head-on into a bus (AS 01 GC 3288) near Civil Hospital around 10:30 pm. The collision caused the bike to explode into flames, setting the bus on fire.
The rider of the bike, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, died on the spot after being consumed by the flames. Miraculously, all passengers inside the Guwahati-to-Shillong bus managed to escape unhurt, with some jumping out of windows to save their lives.
Police and fire services from Nongpoh rushed to the scene, doused the flames, and recovered the charred remains of the biker before shifting them to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh. Eyewitnesses among the bus passengers recalled the panic as smoke and fire spread, forcing everyone to scramble out in a desperate bid to survive.
