Acting immediately, police set up a checkpoint at Mansinggre. Within half an hour, the suspect vehicle was intercepted. The abducted businessman was found inside the vehicle and was rescued safely.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was intercepted along the Bolsong-Agia road by three men travelling in the Ertiga. The accused allegedly forced him to stop, snatched his motorcycle keys and mobile phone, demanded his trading licence, and searched him. They then robbed him of ₹30,000 in cash before forcibly taking him away in their vehicle. One of the accused also rode the victim’s motorcycle.

The arrested accused have been identified as Tenggra Ch. Marak alias Togan (36) of South Garo Hills, Dipon D. Sangma (38) of West Garo Hills, and Lovingson R. Marak (33), also from West Garo Hills.

During questioning, Tenggra Ch. Marak claimed to be associated with an organisation called United Garo People’s Forum.

A case has been registered at Bajengdoba Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to abduction, robbery, wrongful restraint, and criminal conspiracy.

Each has been sentenced to four years and three months of simple imprisonment.
