Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday, October 8, 2026, organised a motorcycle rally from Eastern Air Command in Upper Shillong to Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi district, with hundreds of Congress workers, supporters and members of the public participating.
The rally, held under the banner ‘Save Democracy’, was aimed at highlighting the party’s call to protect democratic values and constitutional rights in India.
Congress leaders and participants also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged “vote chori”, which the party claimed have caused controversy across the country.
The peaceful motorcycle rally began at Eastern Air Command and proceeded through Umsyrphi, Mawlai Pump, Mawlai ISBT and Lad Umroi, before concluding at Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi district.
The Congress said the rally was part of its broader campaign to raise public awareness on issues it believes have a bearing on democracy and electoral rights.
