Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that the decision of MLAs from other political parties to join the National People’s Party (NPP) stems from the close relationships and political understanding they have developed through their years of working together in the government.
Speaking to reporters on Monday after the swearing-in of Paul Lyngdoh as a Cabinet minister, Sangma maintained that the NPP had never attempted to poach MLAs from other political parties.
He, however, welcomed the growing number of legislators joining the NPP, saying their entry would further strengthen the party as well as consolidate the government.
Sangma said a stable government was essential to ensuring effective public service delivery, adding that political instability could create significant hurdles in the implementation of developmental activities.
