Shillong: A long-standing demand of the public for a motorable road connecting Jaiaw Laitdom Block to the link road bridge, locally known as the “Bret Suloi” bridge under Jaiaw Umphohliew Block, is finally moving towards implementation. The proposed road will run along the Umkhrah River and connect towards Shaw. On February 19, 2025, North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum personally inspected the site in the presence of PWD officials, shnong representatives and landowners. Nongrum said the road, demanded by residents for over 38 years, covers a total stretch of more than 500 metres from start to end. He informed that work will begin in the first phase, covering a length of 63 metres, with an estimated cost of ₹1.3 crore, while the remaining portion will be taken up in subsequent phases. The MLA said the road will be a major relief and blessing for residents living along the river belt, especially during medical emergencies and for meeting daily needs.
