Shillong, December 02: The Congress party is all set to fight as a strong contender in the MLA Election of 2023 from Sohïong constituency with a former officer of the Customs Department who held the post of Superintendent, S.Osborne Kharjana as its candidate from the constituency.
Speaking at the meeting of the leaders of the units which was held on the 2nd of December in Mawmaram, Kharjana said that he entered politics because the community has become a subject of ridicule for other communities of India every 5 years because the people of the Khasi community are very much like crabs who try to pull down each other.
He said that the non-tribals call the Khasis “buddhu”, which means a fool, and the Khasis are just like crabs. In clarifying the statement he said that in Meghalaya there are 60 MLAs, 34 from the Khasi-Jaintia Hills and 24 from the Garo Hills, but every 5 years, only a Sangma becomes a Chief Minister, which means that the 24 rule over the 36.
Kharjana said that in looking for the reason, it is found that it is the electorate, as it all depends on one vote to decide the fate of the country and the community, and if there is no electorate, there will not be any Government. He also said that the reason why only Garos become Chief Is that this, while the MLAs have chosen to dare not open their mouths to speak, and added that in choosing an MLA who dare not open their mouths, a person from the Garo community will become a Chief Minister, otherwise why else when there are already 36 MLAs, should be given to a Garo.
At the meeting held many came to listen to the leaders of the different units of the Congress party in Sohïong, and on this day the younger sister and niece of the former MLA, H.D.R Lyngdoh, apart from leaders of the Congress in East Khasi Hills District were present.
