SHILLONG, November 08: The President of the National People’s Party (NPP) Meghalaya who is also the Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, Dr.Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi was amused at the claim made by the leaders of the BJP that no Government in Meghalaya can be formed without the BJP. He asked which Constitution does the BJP follow by which it can claim that no Government can be formed in Meghalaya without it.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) through its leaders including the MP of the BJP from Arunachal Pradesh who is also a Union Minister, Kiren Rijiju and the leaders of the BJP from Meghalaya have claimed that no Government can be formed in Meghalaya after the 2023 Elections without the BJP.
On being queried about this, Dr.Kharlukhi said that as per the Constitution of India, the Governor of the State will have to call the majority party to form the Government after the Election. He said he does not know which Constitution states that only the BJP can form the Government.
On the other hand, the leaders of the NPP said that the party will not have any pre-poll alliance with any party, but after the Elections in the event the majority is not won then alliances will be thought of and added that at present the NPP has set a goal of winning the majority in the State so that it will not need to form a coalition Government.
On being queried, Dr.Kharlukhi said that there will be about 6-7 MLAs from other parties who will be joining the NPP. With regards to the AITC he said that this political party will still have to receive the trust and mandate of the public.
