Shillong: The State Government today said that the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong will be relocated to the present quarters of the Municipal which has been used all this while as the Office of the Shillong Municipal Board in Bishop Cotton Road.
This was announced by the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong also in the presence of the Urban Affairs Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar while speaking with media persons. The Government had also proposed another plan which is to relocate the residents of this area to the present site of the TB Hospital in Them Mawbah, Upper Mawprem, however after the residents of Mawbah and nearby areas opposed the proposed plan of this healthcare facility, the plan had to be scrapped.
Furthermore, Tynsong also said that besides the already existing quarters, the Government has also directed the Urban Affairs Department to prepare another Detailed Project Report which will include the design and approximate cost to be sent to the Government for necessary action.
The situation at present is that the Government conducted a census and found that the people that needs to be relocated from Them Ïew Mawlong are 342 households in total.
After this announcement was made, Tynsong said that this decision taken today is the final decision on the matter and hopes that the Harijan community also will accept what the Government has planned to do next for their welfare.
Responding to a query, Tynsong also said that it should be kept in mind that in the meeting which the Government had with the leaders of the Harijan Panchayat Committee, the Committee had accepted and agreed to the decision of the Government to relocate the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong to the quarters of the Municipality, which after the Urban Affairs Department had sought for relocation sites, concluded that this place is the most suitable place for their relocation which is also a place specially made for them to stay as employees of the Shillong Municipal Board.
After this Prestone Tynsong said that when the DPR is received, the Government will once again call for a meeting of the HPC and it will be in this meeting that the Government will take on the task of explaining to them in detail so that the plan can be processed ahead.
