SHILLONG, August 10: The Home Minister of Meghalaya, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the District Administration and the Police Department will do their duty in maintaining the law and order, and it is the duty of the Government to be alert.

The statement of the Minister comes after Ka Sur Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep announced that they will hold several programmes as a sign of commemorating the first death anniversary of former HNLC leader, Cherish Starfield Thangkhiew who was gunned down on the 13th of August 2021 and has also demanded that the Government should not send any police personnel to Mawlai from the 12th to the 15th of August 2022.

On being queried on this matter today Rymbui said that the Government will do what is needed to be done, and expressed hope that no  incident will take place which will affect the law and order situation especially after the Deputy Chief Minister last week already clarified to the group on the process to be followed with regards to the enquiry report on the killing of Cherish Starfield Thangkhiew.
