Conrad announces Kennedy Khyriem as NPP candidate from Mawphlang

SHILLONG, July 26: Former MLA of Mawphlang who is also the forefront leader of the Indian National Congress in Meghalaya, Kennedy C Khyriem has joined the National People’s Party (NPP) today at a meeting held in Mawphlang, and on this day the National President of the NPP who is also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya announced the name of Kennedy C Khyriem as the NPP candidate from Mawphlang in the Assembly Election of 2023.

Conrad Sangma’s announcement of Kennedy C Khyriem’s name as the candidate of the party comes after an understanding with the MDC, Lamphrang Blah who agreed to allow Kennedy C Khyriem contest the upcoming Assembly Election in 2023 from Mawphlang, and from the side of the National President of the party,he praised the sacrifice of the MDC who had unsuccessfully contested the bye-election from Mawphlang on an NPP ticket.

Speaking at the meeting, Sangma said the leaders who were not on speaking terms and who contested against each other in the past are now seated alongside on the same platform, and this has been possible because the NPP has leaders like Prestone Tynsong who can lead the supporters of Kennedy C Khyriem and Lamphrang Blah to an understanding.

Speaking on this day, Kennedy C Khyriem said the decision to join the NPP comes after he had consulted with his supporters and friends in which the majority expressed that he should join the NPP.
