AITC MLAs of Meghalaya demand immediate inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language and rejection of the Border Resolution MoU

The leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Dr.Mukul Sangma along with Charles Pyngrope,MLA of Nongthymmai, George B.Lyngdoh, MLA of Umroi, Zenith M.Sangma, MLA of Rangsakona and two other AITC MLAs from the State staged a protest in the compound of the Parliament demanding for the immediate inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Apart from the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages, the AITC MLAs from Meghalaya also demanded the rejection of the Border Resolution Memorandum of Understanding signed in the first phase with Assam because it is a hasty agreement signed without the consultation or information extended to stakeholders who are the local indigenous people of the State and residents of the interstate border areas.

The protest of the AITC MLAs of Meghalaya was carried out with them carrying placards on which the inscriptions of the demands were clearly stated.
