Nongpoh, June 24: In part to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Ri-Bhoi District Police Department today the 24th of June organised a public rally which started from NSCA Pahamsyiem going through the highway of Nongpoh town and culminated at District Library Hall, Nongpoh in which many students from different schools and colleges in Ri-Bhoi District participated enthusiastically.
After the public rally, the Anti-Drugs campaign continued with an Extempore Speech on the topic, “Say no to Drugs” or in Khasi,”Ban ong em ia u Drugs”, which was held at the Library Auditorium Hall and participated by the students from schools and colleges. A short skit was also presented on this day by the Ri-Bhoi Area Welfare Association (RAWA) and songs sung by Anthony Khriam.
On this day held to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking were also present M.B.Tongper, MCS, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Giri Prasad, IPS, SP of Ri-Bhoi District, T.S.Sangma, District Medical Health Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, E.Kharchandy, District Social Welfare Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, Jessica A.Sangma, SI, Women Police, S.Pasleiñ, MPS, DSP of Ri-Bhoi District, the teachers, students and many other senior officials from the Police Department.
On this day prizes were also distributed to the winners of the Poster Campaign and Extempore Speech competitions. In the Poster Campaign competition, the first prize was won by Skhemlang Lapang from St.John Sec.School, the second prize was won by Khrawkupar Tynsong from Ri-Bhoi College and the third prize was won by Badashisha Kharmyndai from Ri-Bhoi College. In the Extempore Speech competition, the first prize was won by Riia Sheba Syiem from Auxilium Hr. Sec School, the second prize was won by Ila Naomi Syiem from Auxilium Hr.Sec School and the third prize was won by Determine D.Syngkli from St.Pauls Hr.Sec School and certificates were also distributed to all the participants of the two competitions.
