Rs.5 lakhs as ex-gratia to next of kin of the two siblings killed in Nongrah

SHILLONG, June 20: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Empowerment of Women(MACEW) has informed that the State Government will release an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakhs to the family of the two siblings who were allegedly killed by their father on the night of the 30th of May.

Today the 20th of June, the Committee on Empowerment of Women summoned the Director General of Police, Dr.Lajja Ram Bishnoi, the Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Women Commission (MSCW), Phidalia Toi and the Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR), Ïamonlong M.Syiem to gather stock of the ongoing process on the matter relating to the incident.

The Chairperson of MACEW, Dr.M.Ampareen Lyngdoh informed that the Committee has received information that the Department of Social Welfare will prepare the process required for the grant of the ex-gratia to the family of the two siblings, and expressed hope that department will complete the process sooner so that the family can hand over the matter to experienced lawyers to fight the case.

She said that the Committee is deeply concerned about this matter and has also suggested that it is necessary for the police department, the MSCW and the MSCPCR to consult and discuss together over the complaint filed by the mother of the children on her being assaulted by her husband who then ultimately killed his children.
