SHILLONG, May 05: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang today inaugurated the Northeast Food Show in Shillong, in the presence also of the Minister of Agriculture, Banteidor Lyngdoh and Minister of Tourism of Sikkim, Bidu Singh Panth.
Speaking at the inauguration, Conrad Kongkal Sangma said that the Northeast Food Show is perfect platform for entrepreneurs and also the farmers as a means to promote them in the global market.
Meghalaya in collaboration with SIAL started the Northeast Food Show in 2019, and this is the second time that this show has been organised where different kinds of food and crops produced in different parts of the Northeast are exhibited and sold with other countries from South East Asia also participating.
The Chief Minister also said that these kinds of platforms show not only the rich produce of food, but will also promote entrepreneurs, farmers, cooperative societies and Self Help Groups.
In his speech, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya also praised Vietnam which has become an example in the production of food in the global market, and added that if the Northeast region collaborates then it can also produce many different types of food for the global market.
The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang applauded the Chief Minister of Meghalaya who actualised such platforms to promote entrepreneurs and farmers from across the North-eastern region.
On this day were also present Pham Sanh Chau, Ambassador, Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Ram Prasad Subedi, Charge d’Affaire, Embassy of Nepal in India, Ikko Watenabe, First Secretary to Embassy of Japan in India, Tourism Minister of Sikkim, Bidu Singh Panth, Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, R.V Suchiang and representatives from Chile, Poland, Austria, United Kingdom and the European Union.
