SHILLONG, May 03: Lawei Ka Ri Sports Social and Cultural Club began the 15th Lawei Ka Ri Open Carrom Championship at the Indoor Sports Hall in Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Shillong.
On the opening day were also present the MDC of Mawlai constituency, Teiborlang Pathaw as the Chief Guest and the Headman, B.R Kharmujai besides the members of the club and the participants.
Speaking on this opening day of the 5 day Championship, Pathaw said that sports have a role to play in helping the people, some sports help in the physical well-being of a person and such tournaments also help with the thinking prowess of a person.
He praised Lawei Ka Ri SS&CC for taking on the task of organising such championships. He said that as a representative, he has an aim to promote sports activities in the area, and added that he also aims to organise Mawlai Games in order to promote the talents of the youths.
