SHILLONG, February 23: The National Vice President of the National People’s Party (NPP) and also Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong speaking at the function to welcome new members to the party said that in 2018, people had remarked that the NPP is a Garo party and Sniawbha,Ngaitlang and Prestone free from one Garo have now dived into the rule of another Garo.
But now under the leadership of Conrad Sangma and the NPP, Meghalaya is one. He said that if there are two parts of Meghalaya, one may say Garo or if there are two parts of Meghalaya, one may say Khasi, but when there is only one then the one cannot be divided.
Tynsong also said that he is glad to have had great leaders in the past like Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, Clifford Marak, P.A Sangma for echoing the need for a Khasi state, a Garoland and that desire does linger in the leaders but the reality is that the state is too small and it is not easy to divide a state.
He gave an example of Uttar Pradesh which has hundreds of MLAs while pointing that the Indian Government has to take into account several equations first even though they have wanted to divide the state. He said in Meghalaya, a great leader like B.B Lyngdoh had once said that small is beautiful but yet the smaller it is the easier it breaks.
The NPP leader call upon the need to stand united by stating that the NPP stands for Meghalaya and it stands also for the whole of the North-Eastern region.
Tynsong on the other hand said that the goal of the NPP is to be single largest majority party in 2023 and said that till now only the APHLC has been the party which has had a single largest majority win in the year 1972 and after that no other party has achieved the feat and all subsequent Governments have been formed through coalitions.
