SHILLONG, February 23: The MDC of Nongskhen who just joined the National People’s Party (NPP), Grace Mary Kharpuri said that she may change her uniform a 100 times but her personality and character will not change in working for the people.
Grace Mary Kharpuri stated this at the function held to welcome her formally joining the NPP, in which supporters from Shella constituency were also present. Grace Mary Kharpuri has won the MDC seat from Nongshken consecutively from 2009 and in 2019 she won the seat on a Congress ticket but however exited from the party to contest the bye-election from Shella constituency.
Speaking on this day, the MDC expressed her anguish over being called an outsider through the misunderstandings created by her opponents, while expressing that if a comparison is made between Shella and Nongskhen constituency, then it is in Nongshken that she is an outsider yet the people of the constituency have consecutively chosen her as their representative from 2009 and reiterated that in Shella constituency also she is not at all an outsider.
On the other hand, Kharpuri also stated the reason for her joining the NPP comes after making thorough scrutiny and even though there will be criticisms that she has hop from one party to another, but those that criticise let them criticise. She said that the NPP has excellent leaders while applauding the Chief Minister as a humble person who is always ready to listen to her even though she is just an MDC and also praised Prestone Tynsong as an understanding man even though she had been his opponent in previous elections.
