HEADLINES

SHILLONG, January 19: The Urban Affairs Minister of Meghalaya, Sniawbhalang Dhar has expressed that the Government cannot just chase out and abandon the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong, but it has to find ways and means for all to be satisfied because they are all citizens of the State.

After the High Level Committee submitted its report on Them Ïew Mawlong to the Chief Minister, the Government took over the area in Them Ïew Mawlong which was then allocated to the Department of Urban Affairs to beautify and shift the people residing in the area.

Speaking with media persons, Dhar said that as it is at present, the department does not have the full report on the number of households that have been relocated, but he stated that there are a few households of employees from different departments of the Government that have been shifted from the area.

He said that the Government has not been sitting idle and the process of relocating the residents is moving forward, and the Government will do what must be done but that does not mean that if there is an opposition then the Government will stop while asserting that the Government has to see to and listen to important aspects as well, therefore it has to move forward in the most appropriate way.

He said that the process has moved forward especially from time to time when the Deputy Chief Minister has spoken and expressed about everything being in the processing stage and is moving ahead accordingly. He said that the Government will do the best in a proper manner because the residents cannot be abandoned for they are also citizens of the State, but it has to be carefully seen that everyone is satisfied and this is a duty of the Government.
