KHADC disbursed Rs 3.47 Lakh in relief to natural calamity victims in 2025–26: CEM

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Winston Tony Lyngdoh, informed the House that the Council has disbursed Rs 3.47 lakh as relief assistance to 47 families affected by natural calamities during the financial year 2025–26.

Replying to a query raised by Mairang MDC, E.L. Nongrang, regarding delays in the release of compensation to disaster-affected families, the CEM stated that there was no delay in disbursing relief during 2025–26. However, for the financial year 2026–27, the Council has not yet released funds as it is currently functioning under a Vote on Account.

He said the Council would release the assistance after the ongoing session concludes and urged MDCs to submit all required documents, including beneficiaries’ names, photographs, bank account details and other necessary information, to facilitate the speedy disbursement of funds.

The CEM further clarified that families affected by minor incidents are provided Rs 4,000 as relief, while those who suffer severe damage receive Rs 15,000.

During the Question Hour, Sohïong MDC, S.L. Thabah, highlighted the plight of several families affected by the recent storm, while Laban-Mawprem MDC, Ricky Shullai, raised concerns over losses suffered by organic farmers in Lawsohtun due to the adverse weather conditions.
