Shillong: All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) president Regaldinus Dohling has urged members not to march en masse to the Secretariat but to allow only six representatives to attend the meeting with the government.
Addressing drivers gathered at the State Central Library on Tuesday, Dohling appealed for calm, saying the agitation had so far been peaceful and must remain so. He assured that once the talks concluded, the delegation would return to inform members of the outcome — “good or bad.”
The state government, following days of protest, has called AKMTTA leaders for discussions today, September 23. Hundreds of tourist taxi drivers, along with local taxi unions under the Synjuk Ki Nongñiah Kali Kamai Sor bad Khapsor and the truck drivers’ association, have rallied in support of AKMTTA’s demand for a policy restricting outside tourist taxis from operating in Meghalaya’s tourist spots.
