Nongpoh: In a serious road accident, a scooty bearing registration number ML 05 T 4679 plunged into a roadside drain at Dulongnar on the Shillong-Nongpoh highway late this evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the scooty, suspected to be speeding, veered off course and rammed into the drain, with the vehicle’s front section getting completely wedged inside.
The rider, identified as 27-year-old Mariawan Kynta of Sohra, sustained severe injuries to his head, hand and leg. He was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for urgent medical treatment.
Police personnel quickly arrived at the accident site and have initiated a detailed investigation into the cause of the mishap.
The damaged scooty was later retrieved from the drain, with authorities cautioning commuters about the dangers of overspeeding on the busy highway stretch.
