Shillong: Winston Tony Lyngdoh, MDC of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) from Nongthymmai, has taken oath as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) without facing any opposition.
Lyngdoh assumed the CEM position following the resignation of Shemborlang Rynjah, citing health reasons.
The VPP, which holds a strong majority with 18 MDCs, including the newly elected Tony Lyngdoh, faced no contest from the opposition. The opposition bloc, comprising the NPP, UDP, HSPDP and one independent member with a total of 12 MDCs, reportedly acknowledged their inability to secure the CEM post and thus chose not to field a candidate against the VPP nominee.
