Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said that the demand for the Inner Line Permit (ILP) should not be linked with the unrest currently taking place in Garo Hills.
Tynsong, who is incharge of Home (Police) and District Council Affairs (DCA) portfolios, said the tension and disturbances in Garo Hills are not related to the ILP demand but are connected to the election of Members of District Council (MDC) to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
He explained that several organisations in Garo Hills have been protesting against the nomination of non-tribals as candidates for the MDC elections. According to him, these groups are voicing the concerns and sentiments of the people, and such issues should not be mixed with the separate demand for ILP.
