Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday revealed that he had received information about groups and individuals allegedly planning to burn his residence and attack his family amid the ongoing tensions in the Garo Hills region.
In a video message, Sangma said he was advised by security officials to leave his residence and relocate to a safer place as part of security protocol after the threat was reported. However, the Chief Minister said he chose not to leave his home and declined the suggestion, stating that he was not afraid.
He added that his life ultimately rests in the hands of the Lord and reaffirmed his identity as an A·chik (Garo), saying the courage and legacy of his late father, P. A. Sangma, continue to inspire him.
Expressing concern over the situation, the Chief Minister appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid violence, stressing that the current tensions can only be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
