Today, thousands of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) students rallied on campus, demanding the immediate removal of the Registrar and Deputy Registrar, expressing strong discontent with Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shukla Shankar’s leadership. The protest was led by student groups, including NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and the KSU NEHU unit, with participants chanting and calling for swift action against the administrators.
This rally follows a recent protest by NEHU staff, who staged a sit-in demanding faster recruitment processes. NEHU’s teachers’ association, NEHUTA, has also called for the removal of the Registrar and Deputy Registrar, alleging that they were appointed by the Vice Chancellor without sufficient qualifications.
The student groups reinforced NEHUTA’s claims, demanding an end to what they allege are unqualified appointments that compromise NEHU’s standards.
