SHILLONG, January 31: The proscribed group, Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today claimed responsibility for the IED bomb blast in Khyndailad on Sunday evening.
The message sent by the General Secretary cum Publicity Secretary of the HNLC, Saiñkupar Nongtraw, said that the bomb blast was planned especially for the specific day to avoid deaths of people, while also stating that it was unfortunate that a few CRPF personnel had fallen and one civilian was injured and the number of people getting injured in the process could have gone up more as per reliable information received by the group.
He said that the blast was a result of a few non-tribal shop owners refusing to pay the tax due to the HNLC. He stated that this also serves as a warning to all non-tribal shop owners to avoid disobeying the orders of the group otherwise they shall be caught in another such unfortunate incident.
The message also said that at present, Khyndailad is like a colony of the Hindus and is no longer a safe and secure place for the Khasis who pass by the area during the night. Therefore, since the Government does not wish or cannot provide any form of security for the Khasis, the HNLC is within its own right and jurisdiction to protect itself from the oppressions of the Government or non-tribals.
He also warned that the HNLC will continue with committing violent acts from time to time and the mistake committed by the MDA Government is the killing of its spokesperson (Bah Che) which has utterly embittered the HNLC. The group will have to avenge blood for blood and those involved will not be free from the clutches of the HNLC, whether they be Ministers or high police officials and the fight now is between the ones with power and the group is ready and prepared to give their lives for the main cause of the community.
