SHILLONG: With heavy hearts and in an atmosphere of deep sorrow, hundreds of mourners gathered at Nongrah Nonglum on Tuesday to bid a final farewell to four-year-old Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai at the Balang U Blei Nongthymai Pohkseh cemetery.
The shocking loss of the young child — who went missing from her home on September 14 and was found dead the next morning inside an under-construction house has left her family, relatives and the wider Khasi society devastated.
The funeral rites were conducted at her residence by the Balang U Blei (Church of God) Umlyngka and Nongthymai. The service was marked by tears, prayers, and an outpouring of grief as people from across Nongrah, neighbouring villages, and beyond came to stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.
Speakers at the funeral, including representatives of the Nongrah Dorbar Shnong, relatives and community members, urged the authorities to act swiftly, ensuring that those behind the abduction and killing of the child are arrested and punished. Both maternal and paternal families said they placed their trust in the law but demanded that justice must not be delayed.
Many mourners also carried placards calling for justice for Insaphira and demanding accountability, as the tragic incident continues to stir anger and anguish across the state.
Insaphira was the daughter of Gowellstar Lyngdoh Mawphlang and Labyntalin Lyngdoh Mawnai.
