SHILLONG, January 25: The Education Minister of Meghalaya, Lahkmen Rymbui said that students need offline classroom teaching but also expressed his distress over the low Covid vaccination rate of students above 15 years of age.
He said that students need education and schools should have opened and for two years now we have been living with Covid and the further step ahead is to prepare the students towards receiving the education they need and not be enslaved by the fear of Covid.
He said that the department has issued the notification to reopen schools in the rural areas for Classes I to XII, whereas in Shillong and adjoining areas, online classes have been directed to resume again.
Rymbui said that the department will take due consideration of the situation from time to time and will make an announcement if there are any changes made while also mentioning that the district administrations as well as school management have been entrusted with the discretionary power to decide and added that if all works have been resumed then why should schools not be resumed again.
