SHILLONG, January 25 : The Home Minister of Meghalaya,Lahkmen Rymbui has said that there is no indication of communal violence in the incidents that occurred on the 20th and 24th of this month. He said that a few people intend to shape such incidents as communal violence which is very bad and added that such incidents happen in all places and it is beyond him why in Meghalaya it is given the shape of communal violence. The Minister also said that if such incidents are termed as communal violence then that is akin to providing a shelter to the culprits involved and encourages them to continue with their atrocious acts which affect the peace and harmony in the State.
Rymbui stated that the police are pursuing the matter and conducting their investigations on the attack that occured at Lumdiengjri on the 20th as well as the incident that took place yesterday the 24th at Mawkhar in which 4 labourers were beaten up by unidentified miscreants.
As per the statement of Rymbui, with regard to the incident in Lumdiengjri, the police had filed an FIR whereas with regard to the incident yesterday, no FIR had been filed yet but nonetheless the police are conducting their investigations to catch the culprits involved.
Responding to a query, the Minister said that till now no arrests have been made but he further stated that it is the duty of the police to be vigilant so that such incidents do not happen again and at the same time he has urged the public to cooperate with the police force in catching the culprits so that peace and harmony remains steady in the State.
