TURA: Senior NPP leader and Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has expressed strong confidence in his party’s prospects in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, while questioning the Congress party’s diminishing presence in the region.
With elections for the 29 MDC seats approaching, Minister Sniawbhalang stated that the NPP is well-prepared for the electoral contest. He highlighted Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s active involvement, noting his frequent visits to assess the ground situation and connect with voters across Garo Hills.
Commenting on the Congress’s ability to revive itself, Sniawbhalang pointed to the national party’s ongoing struggle to regain footing. “While we don’t judge other parties, the people themselves deliver their verdict,” he stated, suggesting voters prefer parties that work for their welfare. The minister referenced the Congress’s dramatic collapse in Meghalaya, which saw nearly all its MLAs defect to the NPP, resulting in the loss of its opposition status in the state assembly.
